Locality:

 Reunion and Mauritius Islands (Islands off the East Coast of South Africa).

Cold Hardiness:

 Surprisingly better than we thought, it can tolerate down-to 28°, F. Probably one of the more cold hardy spiny-palms.

Trunk Type:

 A single, spiny trunk.

Leaf Type:

 Pinnate (feather shape)

Suckering/Solitary:

 Solitary (single trunk).

Maintenance:

 Average

Speed of growth:

 Fast growing

Height:

 In the U.S. uncertain; in the wild 30' feet or more.

Soil requirements:

 Average moisture, good drainage.

Sun requirements:

 Typically full sun in California coastal areas.

General Description:

 A unique and striking spiny palm that has proven to be both cold hardy and fast growing.
