ARCHONTOPHOENIX "TERACARPA" THE BEST KING PALM EVER! WHAT IS IT? This is a type of King Palm that comes from a large specimen in Phil's personal garden. We named it "teracarpa" - meaning "big body". No one has been able to identify it. It has a much thicker trunk, gets taller than the normal King Palm, is a more vigorous grower and does not brown tip in sun. In Phil's garden it towers over regular Kings nearby and is much greener and prettier. There's a hint of silver on the back of the leaves and seeds are larger than normal King Palm seeds. BURRETIOKENTIA KOGHIENSIS RARE NEW CALEDONIAN PALM THIN TRUNK AND WHITE CROWN SHAFT About 45 minutes out of Noumea (the capital) of New Caledonia is Mount Koghi. This is the home habitat for this species. It has a thin to medium trunk, a white crown shaft and gets to about 25 feet tall. Leaves are pinnate, slightly arched and sometimes red emergent. It is native to Pemba Island, an island between Madagascar and Africa. It can reach heights of 25 to 30 feet and has rather husky, prominently ringed green to silver trunk. ENCEPHALARTOS NATALENSIS X WOODII BAND SIZE SEEDLING F1 HYBRID OF A TOTALLY EXTINCT PLANT IN THE WILD As many of you know, Encephalartos woodii is extinct in the wild. And, there is only one "mother" male plant in a botanical garden in Durbin, South Africa. Pups have been removed from that plant and, over many generations, grown well in gardens worldwide. But, there are no females. Because of this male E. woodii pollen has been used on similar cycads to make interesting hybrids. Most take on some of the characteristics of woodii.
