Locality:

New Caledonia Island (east of Australia).

Cold Hardiness:

Sub-freezing, perhaps to 28-30ยบ, F.

Trunk Type:

Medium, slight brownish trunk, crownshafted.

Leaf Type:

Pinnate (feather shape).

Suckering/Solitary:

Solitaire (single trunk).

Maintenance:

Average

Speed of growth:

Medium

Height:

to 30 feet plus

Soil requirements:

Average moister, good drainage and lots of water.

Sun requirements:

Filtered light, working its way into sun.

General Description:

A gorgeous medium sized palm with a somwhat swollen and striped crownshaft. A great plant for Southern California. Called the "tiger palm" because of the prominent stripes on the crownshaft. Another species:Burretiokentia hapala is also quite desirable.
