Alloschmidia glabrata

Common Names:

Locality:

New Caledonia Island (East of Australia).

Cold Hardiness:

Down to 30º-32°, F.

Trunk Type:

Single, thin trunk, limey-green colored crownshaft [a woody shaft at the top of the trunk composed of tightly wrapped leaf-bases].

Leaf Type:

Pinnate (feathered shape).

Suckering/Solitary:

Solitary (single trunk).

Maintenance:

Average

Speed of growth:

Slow to medium.

Height:

Domestic, up-to 20' feet; grows taller in the wild.

Soil requirements:

Rich (high in organics and nutrients), average moisture and good drainage.

Sun requirements:

Filtered light.

General Description:

A thin trunked (approximately 4" to 6" inches), medium-height palm with a long, green crownshaft. Quite rare palm. Holds multiple blossoms below the crownshaft. It is quite rare.
