Locality: This species is endemic
to the Blyderivierspoort Nature Reserve in South Africa.
It is confined to two populations within this locale.
This species has a range of habitats in which it grows.
It can be found in open grasslands, along the borders of
wet forests, in rocky slopes and rocky outcroppings and
cliffs. This species can be found in climates
ranging from hot/arid to semi-wet.

partially to completely subterranean. Ancient
plants have less than a meter of trunk. This
species can be a prolific producer of basal suckers.

know for their small populations and rarity. This
plant is no exception, and is about as rare as it gets.

fairly sharp. Encephalartos cupidus is a slow
growing species, and takes many years to reach maturity.
Female cones are bright green, but can occasionally turn

coastal and inland areas this plant wants to be in full

As this is a dwarf/small species, this plant will need
to be shown off in the foreground of a planting.
They are attractive and showy, but can be easily lost in
the landscape without proper placement.

always have a very limited supply, if any, of this rare
species. Sizes are variable, depending on what we
can bring in. Seedlings are occasionally
available.

quickly.
