FARFUGIUM (LIGULARIA) TUSSILANGINEA VARIEGATED AKA FARFUGIUM JAPONICUM GIGANTEUM VARIEGATED THE SPOTTED LEOPARD PLANT LILY-LIKE, FLAT GREEN LEAVES WITH YELLOW SPOTS YELLOW BLOSSOMS IN FALL TAKES SUN - LIKES WATER This is an interesting plant we propagate ourselves from seeds of existing plants. They form small clusters of shiny green leaf plants that don't get over 18 inches. The new name (Farfugium giganteum) would lead one to think that the leaves are "huge' but they are not. The form we're presenting here are the variegated form with yellow palkadop spots on the leaves. The average leaf width is about 8 inches. Flowers come in the fall are yellow, daisy-like and medium sized. This species enjoys water and will droop over with too little water. Then, when given water, they bounce right back. It's a good "indicator plant" for how well you are watering the garden. They'll take sun in many areas or part day sun. In full sun, give them plenty of water. These plants do sucker and are easy to propagate from divisions. This is a great "filler plant" to put in areas where you want something but don't know what to use. We have other sizes on sale as well. Regular price 2 gallon $85 Sale price this size $65 |

FURCRAEA MACDOUGALII This species is a
stunning member of the Agave family. It is known as the
tallest Agave and is native only to a small area Oaxaca, Mexico.
There it lives in hot, dry scrubland. Overall height in the wild
gets to twenty feet, although plants in cultivation often flower at a
height of about ten feet. Leaves are blue-green in color, very
fleshy and stiff, and pointed upwards. They are also thick and
firm with small spines along their margins. When old dead leaves
are cleaned from the trunk, it is very cool looking. When this
species flowers, a huge upright flower up to twenty feet emerges.
Initially there are white flowers and these are followed by a large
number of "bubils" that fall to the ground and are the means of
propagation. The mother plant then dies. Cold tolerance from
reports is about 22 degrees F. It is a full sun plant. The
15g plants on sale are ten years old and, if anything, bigger than shown
here. |

They require watering from overhead, like rain. One arcs the hose water so it enters the top of the plant. They want filtered light or as bit of sun and tolerate a freeze. We are offering plants mounted on a wooden plank. We have smaller plants for less (on sale) and larger plants as well. See third photo. Of not, we sell out of these quickly but cn usually get new ones in from a fern enthusiast and supplier to our nursery. Regular price plant as shown in first photo $195 Sale price this size $155 |
