INTRODUCTION

Jungle Music Palms and Cycads has been in business for approximately 35 years.  During these many decades we have obtained our plant material through various avenues.  These include propagation from seeds, importation from other countries, establishing offsets from our own plant materials, buying from other growers and purchasing cycads or cycad collections from individual enthusiasts or homeowners.  People's lives do change.  A transfer or job change might mean that a person can no longer grow his cycads.  Or, retirement to a condominium might force the sale of plants.  Also, some people buy a home and just don't like cycad plants because of their spiny leaves.  Whatever the reason, people call us from time to time to sell their cycad plant.  We often purchase such plants and try to find them a new home.  This brief article is to let people know that Jungle Music does purchase other peoples' cycads.  We've bought many card collections over time.  And, you don't have to know what it is, send us photos and we will help you figure out
exactly what cycads you have.

CYCADS WE DO NOT PURCHASE - SAGO PALMS

Typically, we do not purchase Sago Palms, the Cycas revoluta.   This species is just too common and doesn't have good resale value.  Small local nurseries might purchase Sago's, but we do not.  On occasion we can give a referral to someone who has a very large, especially branched specimen of huge size.  Most people that call and say "I want to sell my cycads", have Sagos.  But, we may consider almost any other types of cycads.

TYPES OF CYCADS WE ARE LOOKING FOR AND MAY BUY

Almost any other type of cycad other than the Sago we would consider buying.  We prefer rare or unusual species as well as specimen plants.  If seeds have been properly pollinated and are fertilize, we may buy some species.  We also buy juvenile and mature rare cycads.  Our favorites are the genera Encephalartos, Zamia, Dioons, Cycas (rare) and Ceratozamia.  However, we will consider other types but not Sagos.  We are particularly fond of any cycad that has a blue color to the leaves.  It is not important that you know what type of cycad you have.  Just decide if it's something other than a Sago.  If it is, give us a call.  We'll probably instruct you to email us pictures.

But, please remember, any purchased plants must be legally owned and, if imported, done so with all legal CITES permits.  We refuse to deal with anyone who has plants of questionable ownership or acquisition.

CYCADS IN CONTAINERS OR IN THE GROUND? 

It is certainly easier to purchase cycad plants that are in containers.  But, our staff can remove cycads from the ground or garden as well.  Plants must be accessible and in good health.  Plants in the ground have less value as it takes manpower and resources to remove them.  We have found over the years that collectors or gardeners often have both plants in containers or the ground, so call us if you have either.

WHERE DO YOU LIVE?

Our preference is to buy cycads that are in our locality, especially Southern California.  But, we will consider cycads located in other areas.  If importation into California is not possible from your area, often we can give a referral to you for buyers in your locality.  We do not presently import plants owned by individuals from other countries.  This requires agricultural and CITES permits which are difficult to obtain. 

VALUE OF CYCADS YOU ARE SELLING

We pay fair prices for cycads that we buy.  We are purchasing them for resale to our customers, so any purchases must make financial sense from a business point of view.  A seller will make more money if any plants are sold on a consignment basis.  We have both bought plants outright (preferred by us) and sold on consignment, so whatever works best for you is what we'd do if we like your plants. 

OUR REPUTATION

We have been in business since 1977 and are one of the best known cycad and palm nurseries around.  I have been the President of the International Palm Society and presently serve on the Board of Directors for the California Chapter of the IPS.  I also am a member of various cycad and other horticultural groups.  So, our reputation is impeccable.  In the past ten years we have purchased dozens of cycad collections - some small, others quite huge.

CONCLUSION

Jungle Music Nursery does purchase cycads, whether in the form of viable rare seeds, seedlings, juvenile plants or big specimens.  You don't have to know what you have.  Just send us photos and we can probably ID your plants easily.  We do NOT buy the common Sago Palm.  Almost all other types of cycads interest us.  Just call or email us and we can give you an idea of whether or not we'd be interested.  We do not buy internationally.
